Helen started singing Barbershop in 1987 after hearing a quartet perform at a school function, she was hooked from then on. Helen began singing with Liverpool Ladies, when she was 14 but in 1995 after meeting her husband (at a Barbershop Convention) she moved to Bedfordshire, where she joined Phoenix and won her first gold medal. She took some time out after having her second son, but decided it was time to get back to singing and joined Welwyn Harmony in 2013 – where she very quickly got back into the swing of things and was appointed Assistant Musical Director by Viv Garner, the Musical Director at that time.
Helen was honoured to be appointed Musical Director in February 2014 and is enjoying both the challenges and rewards that this brings. Barbershop is very much a family affair for Helen – her husband directs Shannon Express, her eldest son is a member and her youngest son is a keen supporter, so there is never a quiet moment in the house.
